"Celtic society was predominantly animists" and a rural society. . . "worshipped the forces of Nature". . . "Every mountain, river, spring, marsh, tree and rocky outcrop was endowed with divinity" . . . Trees believed to have spirits, "most sacred being the oak, ash and thorn." Animals were also worshipped for possessing certain admirable qualities that humans didn't have.
